Hot Stone Massage

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

For this therapy, basalt stones are heated in water and placed along meridian lines of the body. Your therapist will also use the stones as an extension of the hand, to melt away stress and ease muscle stiffness. Contrast therapy may be used with cool marble stones. The contrasting temperatures help to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage.

At Breathe Massage & Wellness, the stones are heated in water to a temperature of 110 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. As everyone has a different tolerance for heat, please inform your therapist of discomfort. A flannel sheet or towel is positioned between the placement stones and skin to ensure it does not get a burn. After every client, the heating unit and equipment is washed and sanitized. We recommend a 60 to 90 minute treatment for full body relaxation, but also offer a 45 minute condensed session.

Hot stone massage is not recommended for clients with conditions such as pregnancy, hypertension, cardiac problems, diabetes, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, or nerve damage/sensitivity.
