    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is carpal tunnel syndrome? The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway made up of bones, ligaments, tendons and the median nerve. When the median nerve is compressed, numbness, tingling and/or pain presents in the index finger, middle finger, and half the ring finger. In advanced cases pain may be felt up the arm. This condition may be the result of repetitive use, edema, genetics, chronic illness, or pregnancy.

After an assessment, your massage therapist will develop an appropriate treatment plan. Myofascial release, massage, joint mobilizations, hydrotherapy and stretching will be used through the whole arm, shoulder and cervical region to reduce pressure in the carpal tunnel. Most clients see long term results in 3-5 treatments, with a maintenance session every 4 weeks.

Disclaimer: As always, it is best to consult with your medical doctor for a diagnosis and if massage therapy is an appropriate treatment plan.
